Does Anybody Else Really Dislike Oasis?

I think the Gallaghers are just two arrogant pillocks with an attitude problem whose music is clearly a cheap rip-off of The Beatles. I have no idea why both of them feel as though they can get away with saying anything. I also find their music to be very repetitive – weak, short guitar solos, whiny vocals and mediocre lyrics. I think Liam tries too hard to look good, he should just take it as it comes, change his musical style from time to time, drop the cocky attitude and stop relying so much on other peoples music to adapt songs from and actually try creating them. Just my thoughts.

I can honestly say that I have never liked Oasis, and being a teenager in Britain during the 90s Brit-Pop era, they were everywhere, irritating me!
What always amazed me was that they were allowed to get away with so shamelessly parodying The Beatles, especially in whatever that video was that was a spaceship version of “Yellow Submarine”.
    What can I say?
They have just never been to my taste, just like most of the other bands of their era…

I really don’t enjoy them at all. I saw a movie on the band, and they were just a bunch of drunken sots, rrunning around in a van, and arguing..their story is not compelling…… like ‘four working class Irishmen taking over the music scene in London through pure force of will and turbo training in Hamburg’,..now that’s interesting…
I think the real story of what fuses a band together..life story and all, is an important part of the fan appreciation factor..

Oh how this made me laugh… So you get all pissy when someone says something less than praising about The Beatles and yet you rip into another band?
This is just a silly rant disguised as a question, it really has no place here. If you have your opinions, fine, but keep them to yourself unless someone bloody well asks for them.
yeah, I really just came here to give Mr, T an epic high five.
    *epic high five*

I like the music of Oasis, but I have to agree with you that Liam and Noel are pretty arrogant idiots that still believe they are the best. Preferably, I usually would choose Blur over Oasis, but that’s my opinion.

They aren’t as great as they think they are and you’re right about the Gallaghers being arrogant, but their music isn’t that bad. I wouldn’t consider it a cheap rip-off of the Beatles…. it’s just influenced by the Beatles.

I think there ok. I like wonderwall, but I think Pink Floyd is much better than the beatles, I feel the same way about several Beatles songs, although they do have to songs i love, help and yesterday

i could care less what musicians say outside their music (actually i don’t care what they say in terms of lyrics either) so idk about their arrogance. I don’t really like Oasis because i find their music depressing.

I think Oasis is just about one of the worst bands I’ve ever heard.
However, I intend on learning Wonderwall on the guitar so I can pick up chicks.

I only have “…Morning Glory” and I think it is excellent.
However — I never have jumped on the bandwagon, of those who think Oasis were “alll that!!”

I think that you secretly enjoy them because of their Beatlesesque sound. To purge yourself of this harmful repression you have turned to Yahoo! Answers. Baby steps!

when i am unbiased i think they are ok, a tad predictable decent pop rock band.
when i am biased i hate them because for some odd reason british people wont shut the f*ck up about this not that interesting band
edit: britain is a race now?
    edit2: ok, i suppose i am being an @sshole, but not a racist @sshole.
    quick pop chart research:
definately maybe: uk #1, us #58
whats the story morning glory: uk #1, us #4
be here now: uk #1, us #2
standing on the shoulders: uk #1, us #24
heathen chemistry: uk #1, us #23
dont believe the truth: uk#1, us#12
dig out your soul: uk#1, us#5
this isnt just something i made up, they are much more popular in britian than the united states. i find this to be confusing. i am sorry if i offended anyone.

I’d disagree with you, in fact I’d get into a full-blown argument with you about it. The fact you dislike them and I do like them makes arguing futile.
I personally love the music of Oasis and accept that the Gallaghers have a very effective way of generating publicity for their band, they know the press lap up their behavior and generate thousands of column inches. Noel Gallagher is one of the funniest men in the music industry. imo
To call them Beatles rip-offs is a little bit daft, obviously The Beatles are one of the greatest bands ever. To have the essence of the sound from The Beatles in their music is more of a tribute to them than a rip-off. Just my thoughts.
    EDIT.
I’m easy either way, we could agree to disagree or take it up a level. We’ve obviously both got nothing better to do!!!
Don’t you like even 1 Oasis song?

I think that they try looking like the Beatles, but you can not honestly be a Beatles fan and say they rip off the Beatles music. Yes, they have ripped off from what I have heard, from T-rex, Stevie Wonder, Rolling Stones, Stone Roses, and they do have the Beatles references in their songs, but that is about it. They may be arrogant, but that is not a good reason to dislike their music. Yes, there are far better bands, but I have heard much worse bands than Oasis. They are something that you can sing along in a pub to, with a few friends and beer, they are like the British ACDC in some sense, you don’t take them too seriously, but you have to admit they are not that bad, I really enjoy the first 2 albums as well to be honest.
Yea, they won’t change the world of music, but they have some really good anthem ready songs, and no one would honestly compare them to The Beatles.

I’ve always been pretty “meh” about them. I actually think the Gallaghers are pretty hilarious though (both in a way that they would intend and in one that I’m sure they wouldn’t). I kind of like their cocky attitude. I think it’s entertaining.
As for the music, I think they are horribly overrated, but I’ve also heard much, much worse. I will say that they are given credit for being this revolutionary band and I don’t really see it. They’re just kind of a a band of guys that write pretty good pop tunes. I see why they topped the charts for years, but I don’t get the legend. That said though, I have two records that I never really listen to, but I don’t feel robbed that I picked them up used.
