Which Bands Do You Find Virtually Unlistenable?

I’m gonna be brave and say Led Zeppelin.
Something about their music just really irritates me and I can’t put my finger on it. That thing Robert Plant does with his voice for about 5 minutes when it sounds like he is about to sneeze makes me want to punch a newborn. I also don’t find his lyrics very creative, a lot of songs were him just referring to females as “babe”, “woman” and “child” (nearly as much as Axl Rose does) and it he kind overplays it. Jimmy Page’s sloppy guitaring isn’t unmatched in my opinion, I don’t enjoy his playing, average bass player and a *good* drummer. Not great, just good.
In the eyes of a Led Zeppelin fan this probably looks like blasphemy, but take this into account: (1. I didn’t randomly insult them, (2.I gave valid and constructive reasons, (3.Their just *not* my taste, so don’t suggest me songs by them to try and convert me, I’ve heard and I don’t like. We can’t all like everything.
I really don’t like Axl Rose’s, Jimi Hendrix’, Brian Johnson’s, Liam Gallagher’s, Chris Martin’s, or Joe Strummer’s voices.
Guns N Roses weren’t bad musically
Jimi Hendrix was an underrated slide player
AC/DC have some good riffs
Oasis have nothing.
Coldplay have nothing
The Clash were good musicians, innovators and I respected their “no messing around” attitude.
This isn’t including all the obvious, no-brainer bands of course. I thought I’d go for some bands who weren’t generally hated to give the others a break.

As long as you didn’t say Queen I was good. LOL. For me I don’t know, I think that one called Nickleback is pretty bad. I have a list of bands who I think are over rated in history, like THE EAGLES! holy **** they’re pretty lame.

Anything U2 did after their first three albums.
Green Day – everything they did, ever.
Oasis really, really blows. So overrated.
And sorry to their zillion fans but Coldplay is awful.
I wish I had more time to answer because there are tons of c*ap out there.

I can’t listen to Paramore or Go: Audio (they broke up recently, thank ****.)
Or AC/DC. And agreed, Brian Johnson’s voice is HORRIBLE.
    I can’t stand Oasis or U2 either.

Fall Out Boy. Gayest band ever.
Tool. I can’t stand them. They’re too experimental for their own good.

Coldplay. Just the sound of Chris Martin’s voice makes me want to drive pencils into my ears. The fact that he’s banging Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t make me feel any better.

wow~~~ THANKS~~~~ So good to see that question.
for once someone who thinks exactly what I think. That Plant person irritates me soooo much that I could never listen to their music which is not that bad. What a poser!!!
I have never been able to endure LZ because of that. Check out my recent answer here.http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…
Recently another R&P user Smiley showed me an album by Vanilla Fudge (Out through the in door).
This is the first time I have been able to enjoy LZ music but performed by another band, so I am kind of happy now!
Here’s the description made by the R&P user Smiley who compiled this album into his playlist on Imeem.
“….Here’s a great homage to Led Zeppelin made by 60′s psych band Vanilla Fudge. During the 60′s, The Fudge always had an ability to take another artists music and run with it….The Supremes, The Beatles, Donovan, Carol King, etc. This album album recorded in 2007, and aptly titled ‘Out Through The In Door’ (a play on the title of Zeppelins final album) is no exception, considering bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Uriah Heep were hugely influenced by The Fudge. Led Zeppelin used to open shows for them back in the late 60′s. Keep in mind these guys are all well into their 60′s now, and still kickin’ it hard. The band consists of all original members; Mark Stein (lead vocals, organ), Tim Bogert (bass, vocals), Vince Martell (lead guitar, vocals), Carmine Appice (drums, vocals).”
Here is a link to his playlisthttp://www.imeem.com/people/aKgj4Hs/play…
You might need to have an Immem account to be able to listen to it, but it is well worth it.

“valid reasons”. Hardly. I can certainly understand how Plant’s voice rubs people the wrong way, but to put down the rest of the bands’ talents is ridiculous.
I cannot listen to Radiohead, Coldplay, or Pink Floyd. Snooze rock. You may have my respect, but certainly not my attention. Almost any power metal makes me burst out laughing when it’s supposed to be serious. There really ought to be a power metal parody band if one doesn’t exist already. Mercenary are the only band I’ve heard that can do that genre any justice.

Jonas Brothers – Obvious choice, but I’m listing them anyways. They can’t hold a tune, the lyrics are pointless, and the instrumentals don’t fit the song. Besides that, I heard that one of the guys dumped Taylor Swift in a 20 second voice mail. I don’t care how untalented people think she is, any guy that does that is a douchebag.
Coldplay – It’s not that they’re bad, but it’s just not my cuppa. Love their lyrics, but I can’t stand the music.
Lil’ Wayne – Yeah, not a band and not even the right section since he’s a rapper or whatever, but he annoys me. Why does he have to say “Wayne’s World” in all of his songs? He completely ruined “Let It Rock” for me and had he not been featured in that song, I would have loved it.
Michael Jackson – Again, not a band. And I’m perfectly happy to take the thrown tomatoes on this, but I can not stand his music. I’ll leave it at that since I don’t feel like talking ill about the dead.
Madonna, Pussycat Dolls, Various Other Female Artists – Hate them all for the simple reason that their songs make me ashamed to be woman. I’m not a golddigging skank and no, I don’t wish my girlfriend was hot like you.
Katy Perry & Adam Lambert – Specifically “I Kissed A Girl” and it’s not so much to do with her, but with idiot skankzoid girls who think being lesbian is just a bridge to get into their school quarterback’s pants. Then with Lambert, he takes every gay stereotype there is, uses them and then tries to make himself popular because of that. I find his voice to be too theatrical, I find hers to be too stuck up even when she’s singing and I’ve decided to just group them into a whole category of homophobes and homo-attention-seekers who fake their sexuality in order to get attention.
There are more, but I can’t think of them right this second…

  22. Guaranteed Eternal Sanctuary Man 21 February 2010 at 11:06 am #

That’s kind of what I see to be the appeal of Led Zeppelin. They’re raw and energetic (for the most part, at least), and they don’t overindulge in their songs. Robert Plant’s screaming always kind of turns me on, you know? He could really belt it.
And Jimmy Page is a great guitarist, but he’s not a great technical guitarist. He really puts his all into it, there’s a lot of SOUL in there. When it comes to John Paul Jones on the bass, I’d say he was really the band’s brain. And Bonham…yes, he certainly *was* a great drummer, but not the best. But…it’s all subjective. Music, I think, it a totally opinionated thing.
Anyway, I think Nickelback are totally unlistenable. I’ve never been able to listen to an entire Nickelback song straight through (and GENESIS is my favorite band).
But when it comes to well-loved bands, I vote AC/DC and Guns n’ Roses, and I agree with what you said about them. Good musicians, fine riffs, I just couldn’t get into them.

  23. Zeppelin’s *Queen* moonieloonie 21 February 2010 at 4:45 pm #

wow me and you could have along debate on our preferences here :/ but u have balls for saying that stuff about led zeppelin especially here on r&p that have tons of die hard zeppelin fans here (me included). at least u didnt say queen though… because i would be *incredibly* pissed off :P
    anyway to answer your question:
    - ZZ top (i really dont like his voice…)
    - Violent Femmes (their singer sucks)
    - KISS (after a few songs, i just cannot listen anymore. plus they are overrated)
    others that dont need explanation:
    - Brokencyde
    - slipknot
    - seether
    - tokio hotel
    :)

  24. Anonymous 21 February 2010 at 9:19 pm #

It looks like blasphemy, but i won’t be insulted. It’s your opinion and i can respect it.
Anyway, i really find Slipknot unlistenable. Once again it’s just something about their mediocre metal and that try-hard feel about them. For god’s sake take off those stupid masks and actually play.

  25. King Crimson 22 February 2010 at 3:23 am #

Led Zeppelin was my favorite band when I was 13-14. It was ******* magic, the whole classic rock thing. But I can’t listen to them anymore either, they sound shitty most of the time. I still think they are more talented than most rock bands though.
I can’t stand a lot of bands, here’s a few main ones, ones that many like (because it’s more interesting than saying “Jonas Bros lolol they suck”):
Bruce Springsteen (The most devious ************ of all classic rock, thinks he’s some sort of everyman hero and glorifies the mediocrity of the common man to astronomical heights. Opium for the people defined, and that attitude is suffocating in his music… and not enough hooks.)
U2 (These guys just have this overarching attitude that they have to be the greatest band forever now… but everyone knows they aren’t… it’s just sad seeing the Rolling Stone mag excuses for these guys, “Bono’s ego is his inspiration, blah blah blah” No, RS, that’s just his ego, and it ain’t amounting to ****… this is the same tuneless crap they’ve been putting out since the early 90′s… poor buggers, they’re cursed, I almost feel sorry for them)
Oasis (Wannabe Beatles, but with all the creativity and good vibes taken out. Only phony “above it all” bullshit and formulaic “hooks”. Sickening.)
Arcade Fire (The most recent overrated phenom… but I haven’t heard from them in a while. Oh well they’re still wannabe Bruce Springsteen with an indie vibe and it’s ******* putrid. Overemoting does not = powerful music… Bruce never got that and these idiots are even worse)
Bob Dylan (Controversial, and I’m ok with some of his stuff, but the music just ain’t interesting… I’m not even sure the lyrics are that great, just overly complicated… with simplistic music… exactly the opposite of what I like in music. I don’t hate the guy that bad but he might be the most overrated artist in all of history.)
The Ramones (The so called definitive “punks”, but aren’t these guys too pussy to be good punk anyway? It’s just boring and monotonous… which is fine because it’s punk, but I want my punk to have some attitude, give me Black Flag any day.)
Eric Clapton (The most overrated guitarist ever. He’s just average as a blues player and yet he’s at No. 2 on every list. **** his influence, he’s not that good. And more importantly, his solo music sucks. (The vast majority of it, Derek & The Dominoes is fine.))
Eagles (The band with the top selling album ever (their Best Of) and man they suck. They don’t have one good song. Their best ones are just shitty butt-rock numbers that get destroyed by other country rock (give me Skynyrd dammit) and Hotel California is the hell of classic rock radio, overlong, hookless, stupid, and worst of all, pretends to deep and manages to get overrated by everybody.)
There’s more but those stand out like motherfuckers. Thanks for the chance to purge some black slime from my heart there. :P
